Concert 7:
Sunday 4 December 1500hrs

St Scholastica's, 2 Avenue Road, Glebe:
Coro Innominata "Green and Pleasant Land - Pastoral Modes in England".

Vaughan Williams, Holst, Rubbra and Howells - all were collectors of folk songs; all looked back to the golden age of Tudor Elizabethan music for musical inspiration - and significantly - all were touched by the horrors of the Great War and the uncertainty it provoked in post-WWI Britain.
In this concert Coro Innominata tracks the development of these gentle giants of the second English Renaissance through Holst's compositions for women's and mixed voices, Howells' and Rubbra's intricate, liturgically-inspired miniatures and Vaughan Williams' secular music - all set against the remarkable grandeur of his Mass in g minor.
Complexity and simplicity sit comfortably side by side in this aurally and spiritually up-lifting concert.
