Interval
The ensemble Cantolibre was founded in Wollongong in 1985 by two Latin American Australians, Fernando and Sonia Arancibia. Its primary source was the New Song Movement, an expression of joy, courage and compassion inspired by demands for political freedom and civil rights. Cantolibre has evolved, adopting creative innovations and influences from Latin American, Spanish and other composers. The ensemble utilises cane flutes, zamponas, charangos and rondadors from the Andes, a cuatro from Venezuala, a tiple from Colombia, a vilhuela and guitarron from Mexico, a cajon from Peru, and a marimba from Guatemala. The musicians are C. Fernando Arancibia, Sonia Arancibia, Fernando D. Arancibia, Mark Holder-Keeping and Bernadette Fitzpatrick.
